What is Microdermabrasion?The surface of our skin is called the cornified layer, or stratum corneum. The cells are keratinized, making them water-proof. The DIAMOND DERMABRASION MEDICALTM technology delivers a stream of micro diamond shaped crystals to exfoliate this layer of epidermis. Our body interprets the ablation as an injury and responds by cell division so that new cells are formed.

What are its benefits?Since microdermabrasion stimulates new cell growth, it can remove various visible imperfections, such as:

• Aged and photodamaged skin
• Acne and its scars
• Uneven pigmentation
• Enlarged pores
• Stretch marks, wrinkles

With the cornified layer scrubbed away, medical lotions and moisturizers are also more readily absorbed into the deeper layers of skin.

Resurfacing techniques work by 'wounding' the skin so that it is forced to produce collagen, heal and remodel itself. However, some of the other techniques are harsh on the skin. Microdermabrasion is gentler and thus less traumatic for the skin. It also has a lower risk of infections.
